The TECHNOSEUM building stands proudly and distinctively on the east road into Mannheim. With it, the Berlin architect Ingeborg Kuhler created a unique feat of architecture and urban planning. The rich abstract design of wedge shapes and inclined levels alludes to the principles of engineering; the grounds are in harmony with the surroundings.

The installation of the steel sculpture “Spring Rain” by the US-based artist Marc di Suvero added the final touch in 1994: a total work of art had been created, giving visitors a foretaste for the museum as a combination of architecture, art and nature.

The Stuttgart agency of the architect Roland Stölzle was responsible for the complete refurbishment of the façade in 2008; it also implemented a light installation for the steel bridge. With 4,800 coloured LEDs divided among 150 lamps, it now provides striking lighting effects for visitors on their way into the exhibition area.
