Mechanical engineering is considered the key activity in industrialisation. This collection concentrates on the resources for production, such as cutting, splitting and shaping machine tools. When it comes to energy production and conversion, there are also various exhibits relating to issues from hydropower to nuclear energy. This collection also includes examples of textile engineering such as cotton spinning machines, the Jacquard weaving mill and domestic sewing machines.
Paper technology is represented by items for manual and industrial paper processing and the construction of papermaking machines. The printing technology collection demonstrates the industrialisation of book printing with relief printing used from the 19th century onwards: hand printing presses, high-speed presses and web-fed rotation printing machines document this development.
