Elementa 1

Elementa 1 demonstrates groundbreaking findings in natural science and technology at the beginning of the industrial revolution. Visitors can perform their own experiments, for example, turning a piece of wood using a pole lathe, or using a bridge built by Leonardo da Vinci to find out what makes an arched bridge so stable and how this knowledge is still deployed in producing folded boxes and other items . The subject matter ranges from optics to mechanics and computation – historic computers such as the abacus and Napier’s bones and original instruments from the Mannheim Observatory of 1774 transport visitors back to the period before 1800.
